Sacred

Long before the white man arrived in the Southwest region of this country, this mountain, now known as the San Francisco Peaks, was sacred to 13 tribes in the area. Not only was it a beautiful landmark, but there were and still are today, many plants and herbs that grow on the mountain not found anywhere else in the world. These plants and herbs are used for healing by the medicine men of all the tribes.

For the Diné people, the Navajo, the mountain is their essence.

There are countless special places like this on earth that are sacred to the indigenous peoples of each area. Now that we all share and live on this planet together, it is very important that we acknowledge and respect these sacred places.

We can’t let progress and greed destroy the cultural heritage of this planet.
